PEOPLE GROUP FOCUS: THE KALEK

The Kalek are another major people group in North Africa. They are a hard-nosed, territorial, isolated desert people. There are no known believers among them. Some people are trying to reach out to them, but from outside the country. Access to their communities is limited.

PRAISE

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.” (Isa 41:17-18)

Lord, you were with your people in the wilderness and never forsook them, even though they were unfaithful. You cared for them. You’re able to turn a desert into a spring of water. We praise you that nothing is too difficult for you!

CONFESSION

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

Forgive us, our God, for doubting your ability. You can do anything, and that includes saving a remnant for your name even from among the most isolated and hardened people groups on the earth.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” (1 Cor 3:6–7)

Thank you, Father, that you are the one who has brought about growth among other people groups in North Africa. And thank you for those who have faithfully labored among the Kalek, planting and watering, even though fruit is not yet evident. You are at work.

REQUEST

“He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.” (Ps 107:35)

Please do that, Lord: Have mercy on the Kalek, and turn their spiritual desert into overflowing rivers of life in Christ. Raise up believers to live among them and proclaim your Word. May many access the portions of your Word that have been translated into Kalek, and believe. Open up doors for your name to be proclaimed and vindicated deep in the desert!
