Many churches here in North Africa do not have elders to lead them. The appointing of local elders in new churches (and in long-standing churches) is a crucial step to the maturity and stability of these fellowships.
“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” (Eph 4:11–12)
Lord, you care for your church and give it good gifts, including shepherds to watch over it. Thank you for caring for the bride of Christ!
“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” (Heb 13:17)
Forgive us, Lord, for when we do not obey, submit to or honor the leaders over us in the church. May we help their task be a delight as we listen carefully to their teaching.
“And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.” (1 Pet 5:4)
Thank you, Father, that Jesus is our Great Shepherd who laid down his life for us sheep. May North African under-shepherds know that they are representatives and servants of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
“The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.” (1 Tim 3:1)
Lord, raise up men who would aspire to serve your church as elders. May they love your church so much that they long to shepherd it. May they be trained to teach, lead, pray and model. We ask for a generation of godly shepherds who sacrifice for the sake of your sheep.
