North African believers face opposition from many sides, especially from family. They may be shunned by their families, forced to divorce their spouses, lose custody rights, lose their jobs, or face pressure from authorities. Recently a number of local fellowships have been shut down by authorities, and some believers have faced legal charges.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Rom 8:18)
Father, you are worthy of giving up everything for. Your glory is so much greater than anything we can experience in this life. Let us set our hearts on the eternal glory that awaits us!
“… for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.” (John 12:43)
Forgive us, Lord, for loving praise from people more than praise from you. May we seek after your glory, praise and affirmation rather than temporary, empty praise from others.
“Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.” (Acts 5:41)
Lord, thank you that you direct all things perfectly and wisely; if we suffer, it is an honor. May we trust in your sovereign goodness and so suffer for your name with perseverance and joy. Grant that to North African believers.
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” (1 Pet 4:12–13)
Father, may North African believers expect suffering and be ready to face it as they set their hope on Christ’s glorious coming. May they rejoice to be counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus. Give wisdom, courage, boldness and love to believers facing opposition from their families and from authorities. Deliver the church from evil men and let your Word run and bear fruit.
